Why Can't Those Damn Rich People Pay Their Fair Share? (by Rovin)

The facts are really very simple to understand when you read the graph above that shows who pays the bulk of the taxes collected by our government. Barack Obama and our other liberal Marxist friends would have you believe that the "rich" don't pay their fair share. In fact, an Obama administration plans on doing some more redistribution of wealth, (this is called socialism), by raising more taxes on the top 50% and give the money to the bottom 50%, who pay little---3%----or no tax at all. Using IRS figures, Stephen Moore at the American dot com explains who is paying their fair share and who is not:

What income group pays the most federal income taxes today?

The latest data show that a big portion of the federal income tax burden is shouldered by a small group of the very richest Americans. The wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 percent of the income but pay 37 percent of the income tax. The top 10 percent pay 68 percent of the tab. Meanwhile, the bottom 50 percent—those below the median income level—now earn 13 percent of the income but pay just 3 percent of the taxes. These are proportions of the income tax alone and don’t include payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare. LINK

The fact is there already is a progressive tax policy that collects the bulk of the tax base from the "wealthy" while the "middle class" and lower pay virtually no tax at all. So the next time you hear our dear socialist friends and Barack Obama say some are not paying their fair share, show them the facts. Barack Obama and the Democratic Party have been arguing for years that this nation needs to be more aggressive on income redistribution that does nothing but kills jobs and investment in our workforce. This is classic class warfare that feeds on the envy of those who have been successful through hard work and investment, the very fabric of free markets, and yes capitalism----that has built this nation and created more individual wealth than any other nation in the world. Barack Obama plans to change that.

A TALE OF TWO JOES
(By Rovin)

Who would have thought after two years of a presidential campaign, it would take the efforts of "two Joes" to do the job the mainstream media has deliberately refused to do?

With just ten days before the election, there are still so many questions that remain unanswered about who we should choose to lead this nation for the next four years. Pollsters are all over the place with Barack Obama leading anywhere from one point all the way to twelve in the over-all national counts. Obama also leads in some key battleground states the McCain must hold to be victorious. Meanwhile, our esteemed Obama cheerleaders, the mainstream media, have done their "journalistic" best to put their chosen one in the White House. Never, in the history of U.S. Presidential elections has there been this level of outright bias shown by the media towards one candidate over the other. One of the biggest "cheerleaders" this year, (no surprise), is the New York Times, who is reporting a 50% drop in advertising sales, and a business rating company has put the Times in a the heralded category of junk. As of last week, the Times Ombudsman, (the in-house critic of their own paper), has declared the Times a fair and balanced paper when it comes to reporting on the election process. On the level of credibility, this is akin to assigning a fox to watch over the sheep-----some one's going to get eaten, and in this case it's the general public that still thinks this paper has the pulse of the nation.

If Acorn, (the community based "advocacy" for the disadvantaged, that has just announced that they may have up to 400,000 bogus registrations that were turned into state election boards), was in any way connected to the McCain campaign, does anyone think this story would not be on the front pages of every major paper across this nation? Quick scans of this morning’s print media suggest this is not the case.

If an unrepentant admitted "former" domestic terrorist, (now a college professor at a respected institution), had close personal ties with John McCain, would this simple fact be missing in the daily print or TV media in the last days of an election?

The fact is who ever wins this critical contest; the national media's reputation for journalistic integrity has been forever stained. "Credibility", thy name is not worthy of the word to be used when describing today's mainstream media. They decided a long time ago that they would be advocating for anyone other than another Republican in the White House.

Enter Barack Hussein Obama; a south-side community organizer turned state senator, 126 legislative days of experience in the U.S. Senate, and now a potential President of the most powerful nation in the free world. It would be unfair at this point not to mention that the mainstream media is still spending more ink and air time vetting the vice presidential Republican candidate, (Sarah Palin)-----that entered this race on August 29th of this year-----than Barack Obama has received since he entered the race on January 17, 2007, (over twenty months). The media's obsession with Sarah Palin's short history as a hockey-mom turned small town mayor, and now governor of Alaska, has been unrelenting, and at times "journalistically" embarrassing. The fact that this woman has more executive experience in her short political career than Obama's lifetime achievements speaks volumes to a media that refuses to even acknowledge that Joe the Plumber may actually have more experience than Barack Obama.

With national and global economic conditions on the minds of the electorate, an Ohio (unlicensed) plumber named Joe managed to get more information on the agenda and political philosophy of Barack Obama than the mainstream media has in two years. Obama's "spread the wealth" statement was already understood by the media. But the media did not care to share this little fact with the public because these socialistic ideas are not necessarily accepted by mainstream Americans. The reason the media did not ask Joe's question is because they also believe in Obama's radical government controlled redistribution of wealth policies.

With Obama's economic agenda now exposed, we will turn our attention to the "other Joe" that managed to do the media's job. Obama's vice presidential candidate Joe Biden said the other day that Obama will be tested by some outside threat to this nation within the first six months of his tenure. Senator Biden says that under these conditions we, (the electorate), must stand behind Obama's decisions whether they are perceived as right or wrong. Would you stand behind your dog if he were pissing on your mother-in-law's leg? O.K., wrong analogy, but you get my point. Biden has managed to formulate the question that the media has refused to ask----is Barack Obama qualified to lead this nation in a time of crisis? Or, who is the best person qualified to step up in a national crisis that will protect this nation from physical harm?

Thanks to "two Joes", (and no thanks to the Obama Press Corps); the electorate finally has some serious questions that have been asked of who will lead this nation and in what direction it will follow. I will stop here with one of Sarah Palin's favorite----"Only John McCain has actually fought to preserve the liberties and freedoms this nation has enjoyed". And this includes the right to privately vote for the candidate of your choice. When you walk behind those curtains, please remember that your liberal media did not do their job to fairly present these two candidates. They have led many of you like sheep to the wolves with their agenda of socialism driven on pure bias that has no disguise, no shame, and no interest in what is the best choice to lead this nation. A vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin will send a notice to the media that you were not deceived.

Addendum:

What's with Bill Ayers red star on his tea shirt? And how has the Obama campaign convinced two icons in Ayers and Wright to maintain complete and utter silence?

Still Fighting For You

Last night John McCain let the people of this great nation know that he still intends to fight the good fight. He said he would defend America against the class warfare that Obama and the Democratic Party has embraced throughout this election cycle. McCain also reminded Barack Obama that he is not George Bush:

"Senator Obama, I am not President Bush," snapped Mr. McCain, the clear underdog in polls, in one of many lively volleys. "If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have run four years ago. "I'm going to give a new direction to this economy in this country."

McCain also took the opportunity to bring up Obama's associations with characters and organizations that bring into question the Democrat candidates judgement:

From the Washington Times:

And the senator from Arizona raised many of the issues that have been simmering beneath the scenes: abortion and judicial nominations; Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez and Mr. Obama's pledge to meet with him; Mr. Obama's ties to William Ayers, a member of the Weather Underground group that bombed government buildings to protest the Vietnam War; and his ties to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), which is accused of voter registration fraud.

Mr. Obama brushed aside those attacks, denying that he is associated with Mr. Ayers or ACORN, and for the most part tried to keep the focus on his plans to revive the economy.

But "Joe the Plumber" sets the tone for the remaining three weeks of this campaign. Obama's pledge to "spread the wealth" reeks of socialism and marxism that his past relationships help to solidify. Now the choice is up to us------to embrace big government much like the Carter years when the welfare state nearly broke this nation economically and morally by our dependence or stand up and tell the liberals that this government will be returned to the people as a tool and not our nanny.

Update: From Beldar, a guest poster at Town Hall:

"John McCain did fine at the third debate, but he benefited mostly because Barack Obama's ordinariness became more obvious to more people. More people escaped the mass hypnosis tonight. They sat up suddenly, took a deep breath, and as they watched Barack Obama, do you know what they did next?

They patted their pants pockets, or looked around the room to see where they'd set down their purses. They checked their wallets. That's smart, and it's good for the McCain-Palin ticket. There's easily enough time left, friends and neighbors, for enough more people to awake and to do a wallet-check before they cast their votes on November 4th."

DOW UP OVER 900 POINTS----DEFEATIST MEDIA HARDEST HIT

Last week the media drove the stock markets into a world-wide panic and produced the largest one week loss in history. Today the stock market rebounded by producing the largest single day gain and I will post the "after-market" remarks by our beloved pundits that have thrived on the economic downturn to boost the democratic party.

OBAMA'S ECONOMIC PLANS FOR SOCIALIZING HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATION HAVE BECOME CRYSTAL CLEAR

The social experiment of providing affordable housing to the unqualified buyer IS the major cause of the current financial crisis. While attempts were made, no one put this policy in check while the program swelled to catastrophic debt levels.

Obama’s UNIVERSAL health care policy/program goes far beyond McCain’s health care credit plan to purchase private care. Obama’s plan IS another government owned program that will make FM/FM look like a popsicle stand.

Next up, Obama’s insistence the higher education should also be “free” (with the government again picking up the tab)

Throw in Obama’s “tax give-away” to 95% of the “middle class”—-40% who PAY NO TAXES—-and you have spending and entitlement plans that run into the TRILLIONS.

AND GUESS WHO PAYS FOR ALL THESE GRAND SOCIAL SCHEMES? Every middle class worker/taxpayer who’s struggling to make ends meet.

Can this nation really afford even four years of Barack Obama’s socialist disaster?

It's Time For Rovin's First Annual RATHER-GATE AWARDS

In the spirit of the Dan Rather/Mapes air national guard FABRICATION that was the most egregious attempt by the liberal left wing media to effect the outcome of a Presidential Election, Rovinsworld presents------The Rather-gate Awards.

Instead of nominations, Rovinsworld will accept submitted names, (in comments below), of the "journalist" you think will win the "Grand Prize" in the remaining days of this election cycle. Seriously, which major journalist do you think will sacrifice the integrity of their career and the "reputation" of their network or newspaper for the sole purpose attempting to effect the outcome of a Presidential Election. In the interest of qualifying the level of journalistic prowess, there will be three categories: Major News Network Anchors, Cable Network Anchors, and Print Media. (please remember to specify category)

Winners will be treated to an all-expense paid trip to their nearest McDonald's or fast food eatery of their choice. Not to mention all the exposure of having your name and website published on Rovinsworld, that has the traffic of an Alaskan Polar Bear in Beverly Hills.

I will list the prospective nominees here in the form of updates. Enter as often as you like!

Update: Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the link to the "FABRICATION SITE" is the creation of the infamous Lorie Byrd from Wizbang. Lorie has used the wiki format to install the chronology of the events that transpired when Dan Rather decided to end his career. Nice work Lorie!

Affordable Housing -----The Great Multi-Trillion Dollar Social Experiment

So, you, (the middle class taxpayer), think that this near trillion dollar bailout legislation passed last week is a sign of relief in the financial markets that were threatening main street pension and retirement plans? THINK AGAIN!

There are some experts that say this is only the tip of the iceberg. Let’s start with the housing market:

The vast majority of subprime mortgages — 90 percent or more, by some estimates — are inside giant pools, or trusts, which have in turn sold bonds with different levels of seniority to institutional investors around the world.

Even if the government acquires hundreds of billions of dollars worth of mortgage-backed securities, finance experts say, the Treasury Department would be unlikely to acquire all the bonds tied to a particular mortgage pool. And if the government did not own all those bonds, it might not have the power to demand changes in the underlying mortgages. Link

This Times article appears to advocate home owner relief while the banking industry cautions this approach:

On Monday, 30 community and consumer groups from around the country sent an open letter to lawmakers to press their case.

“It is an illusion to assume that bailing out financial institutions is the same thing as providing relief to foreclosure-plagued American homeowners,” said the groups, which included the Consumers Union, the National Council of La Raza and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. “The only way to make sure that relief is achieved is to give Main Street Americans what they need: Chapter 13 bankruptcy relief.”

The banking and securities industries, meanwhile, are fighting the change with all their might, as they did when it came up with the housing bill that was adopted in July.

“Authorizing write-downs of mortgages by bankruptcy judges will increase the risks of mortgage lending at a time when the market is already struggling, and this will harm consumers,” wrote Floyd E. Stoner, a top lobbyist for the American Banking Association, in a statement on Monday.

And there are tons more assets that are undervalued and will need “propping up” to secure other sectors of the financial market. Interest rates and taxes will have to be raised to balance these “books”. With the already rising prices of “goods” to the consumer, spending will continue to spiral down. Without consumer confidence, spending, (which is the lifeblood of a healthy economy) will cause manufacturers to reduce production and inventories, which will mean layoffs. Layoffs mean more foreclosures. And here we are-----right back to a deteriorating housing market.

How do we break this downward cycle?

This returns us to the title of my post---- Affordable Housing -----The Great Multi-Trillion Dollar Social Experiment. I’m going to get brutal here, so if you’re a bleeding heart liberal that feeds on the part of society that wants to advance the poor and downtrodden by giving them a government handout at the taxpayers expense so you can feel better about yourself, stick your asinine selfish social experiment where the sun don't shine. YOU are slowly bleeding this nation’s economy of the free market principals based on capitalism, that little program where people worked, saved, and purchased their goods (and toys) based on the discipline and reality of living within their means.

This affordable housing experiment took a portion of our society that had no financial or personal business to purchase a home; created a market and a government sponsored institution to back it up, (Freddie and Fannie), and then waited for bill to come due on the unsuspecting middle-class American taxpayer. Talk about the ultimate Ponzi scheme. Yes folks, this was a liberal experiment started in the late eighties, accelerated in the nineties, and run amuck in the 21st century. Warnings were sounded and defeated by the interested parties. On the face it appears that our liberal Democrat friends had the bulk of the responsibility to put this runaway experiment in check and refused to let the money go. Personified greed and the asinine “understanding” that they were promoting societal health to the truly downtrodden may very well be the reason for another economic depression that could take twenty years to recover from, if at all.

Now here comes the real scary part. Barack Obama has based his entire political career on promising the electorate he will add to this “social experiment” by subsidizing health care and higher education using the same principals of this affordable housing experiment. Look in the Constitution! No where in this document does it say the people have a right to demand that the government supply taxpayer funded health care or education, or a damn free house! This is called SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM/MARXISM and Barack Obama and his leftist liberals friends plan on instituting these programs to the tune of TRILLIONS MORE OF YOUR HARD EARN MONEY.

ONLY YOU CAN STOP THIS SICKNESS THAT IS EATING AWAY AT OUR PRINCIPALS OF WORKING AND EARNING AND LIVING WITHIN OUR MEANS WITHOUT GOVERNMENT SPONSORED SOCIALISM.

VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN AND SARAH PALIN ON NOVEMBER 4TH.

It's Time to Fight!

An Open Letter to Sen. McCain---(Guest Post)

Dear Sen. McCain,

Sen. McCain, there is not much time left. And you need to remember what put you atop the polls. You were a fighter; you were attacking Sen. Obama, attacking by telling the truth about him and his policies. You weren't trying to be the statesman. You weren't trying to stand above the fray and plead for bipartisanship. You were in there swinging daily. Since I had first sent $25 to your campaign in July, 2007, I was glad to continue sending money. And I thought those weeks before the convention, you had learned the lesson that the only way to win this election was by fighting -- by telling the country what they needed to hear: that Obama and the Democrats would be a disaster for this country.

But I'm sorry to say that the last week or two, I have not seen this fire, the willingness to fight, and to tell the truth about the harm Obama and the Democrats will do this country. In the debate, there was not a single mention of Franklin Rains. Instead you talked about earmarks. Why not ask Obama why he had a man on his staff who led Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to ruin? Sen. McCain, earmarks aren't the problem. The problem is simple -- Democratic policies and those Republicans who unfortunately act like Democrats.

You once said that you would rather lose an election than lose a war. Well, do you want to lose an election because you failed to tell the whole truth at every opportunity? Because you wanted to appear statesman-like? The truth is we are in this "financial crisis" because of Democrats...so say it! We are not in this crisis, Senator, because of Wall Street greed. We are not in this crisis because of pork barrel politics. We are in this crisis because Democrats instituted a bunch of bad policies. And they want to institute more. And you need to say that. Say it in every speech, in front of every camera, to every reporter, and for heaven's sake, please say it in the debate !!!!

Tell the American people that you and the Republicans tried to warn about the problems, but Democrats wouldn't listen. Tell the American people that Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats crassly manipulated yesterday's vote. Tell the American people about the millions of dollars that have flowed from Fannie and Freddie to Democratic coffers. And if your staff doesn't know the details, please, please Senator, have them give me a call, and I'll tell them how they can find out.

I know you want to put country first. But you simply won't have the opportunity to do that if you don't remember what had you leading in the polls at one point. At every turn, Democrats villify and distort. Yesterday's House vote was no different. Cynical and callous, they chided Republicans for not doing their part and blamed them for being petty. YOU, Sen. McCain, need to step up and say that politicians who side with 80% of the country are not to be villified by the likes of Nancy Pelosi. Twelve -- 12 !! -- of Barney Frank's own committee members didn't vote for the bill. Why weren't those 12 vilified by Pelosi? Why didn't Barney Frank talk "uncharacteristically nicely" to them?

Sen. McCain, please tell your staff that every time you utter the word "bipartisan," they are to show you the things that Obama and the Democrats and their allies in the media have been saying about you and Gov. Palin. Do you really think Obama people have been respectful toward you?

And I'm not asking you to lie or distort or to engage in name-calling. Just tell the truth, Senator. Tell the truth about Obama. Tell the truth about Biden. Tell the truth about Democrats. Don't be deterred by what the media says about you. I hate to be the one to tell you this, Senator, but nothing you say or do at this point will make the media elites say nice things about you.

So, you have a very simple choice to make, Senator. Will you spend the next five weeks trying to get the "establishment" to recognize how bipartisan you are? Trying to get them to say, "Gee, that McCain, what a statesman?" Right before they go out and play "gotcha" with Gov. Palin?
Or will you do what you promised us you would do at the end of your acceptance speech -- go out and fight for us, the American people? And I know there's a lot of ways to fight for somebody, Senator. But there's one way to fight for somebody that's been working for a long time -- punch the bad guys in the mouth. Punch'em hard and punch'em often. And keep punching them, till they either leave or don't get back up.

But it's up to you, Senator. If you want to be "statesman-like," ok. But if you want to fight, there's a bunch of us out here that'll fight with you.

East of Eden

The Most Dangerous Woman in America

Legal Socialized Terrorism runs amuck in our House of Representatives

September overview:

Let's see, the Speaker of the House returns from a much needed five week vacation, rams through an energy legislation bill that does nothing to promote energy independence from foreign countrys or provide hundreds of thousands of American jobs-----then on BLACK MONDAY (Sept 29th, 2008) she manages to cost this nations real market value over a TRILLION DOLLARS by playing political games when she march's around the floor of the House telling her Democrat drones to vote NO on legislation that will rescue our financial institutions. (Pelosi's pre-vote speech didn't help much either) In a span of just over two weeks this woman has done more economic damage to this nation than Osama Bin Laden could have accomplished in his lifetime. This is the "new direction" congress this nation voted into power in 2006.

"We believe Democrats will have control of the House and look forward to working with Democratic leaders on the issues that remain foremost on the agenda, including winning the war in Iraq and the broader war on terror and keeping the economy on a growth path," said Tony Snow, the White House spokesman.

Ms. Pelosi told an enthusiastic crowd in Washington that her resurgent majority was prepared to work with Republicans "in partnership and not in partisanship," hoping to break the gridlock of what could be a divided Congress. Link

Tony Snow, God rest his soul, couldn't have been more wrong on his prediction of the Democrats agenda.

"The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history," Pelosi said.

Are Jefferson's freezer deposits still safe Nancy?

On July 16, 2008, Gallop reported that Congress had lowest approval rating in Gallops history at 14%. With the performance of Nancy Pelosi and the House over the month of September, these numbers are sure to get into single digits.

Exit question: Can this country afford a to have Nancy Pelosi or this "new direction" Congress in charge of our affairs for two more years?

Update: Ed Morrissey at Hot Air is noting the Democrats are looking for cover in the financial crisis.

Update 2: Mike at Flopping Aces also has a great post up on how Democrats put politics ahead of national interest.
